Birding in and around our premises is extremely prolific. Species found here will appeal to the experienced, but also to the novest birder and eco-tourist. During the summer months between 30 000 and 40 000 barn swallows roost in the reeds of the Umhlangamkulu river flowing through Southport. It is quite a spectacular view to watch them circle at sunrise and sunset.
The Umhlangamkulu river forms Dieu-Donneè’s southern border. The catchment area is relatively small and allows the river to form a lagoon that only opens the estuary after heavy rains. Some salt and fresh water fish can be found in the water.
